Luckily for him, HIV isn't AIDS, and HIV isn't necessarily a death sentence. The best thing you can do for him is to support him, and be there for him when reality sinks in, ya know? Because it will probably be ugly when it does. Best of luck to you, and to your friend.

I'm so sorry hun. I have three cousins who tested HIV positive years ago, not one of them has full blown AIDS. We have lost two of them, but both deaths were caused by car accidents. He can still live a very long, happy, fullfilling life!
