Staring into the mirror
I see what each passerby sees,
but it's not really me that I see
Which means that no one really sees me
As I know me
Unless I choose to share
Otherwise all that's known is the color of my skin, eyes and hair
Which fails to describe me in the least
For I am much more complex than anyone could possibly see
I think,
I feel,
Sometimes I express
But mostly I stay locked within
A mystery for all to try and solve
For those who care
Who might dare
To wonder,
To ponder,
To try and discover
The soul who resides inside
Behind the cover
But to do so the onlooker must be blinded by what is really seen,
and then disregard it for the meaningless shell it is
Hiding and protecting the precious pearl within
I see what each passerby sees,
but it's not really me that I see
Which means that no one really sees me
As I know me
Unless I choose to share
Otherwise all that's known is the color of my skin, eyes and hair
Which fails to describe me in the least
For I am much more complex than anyone could possibly see
I think,
I feel,
Sometimes I express
But mostly I stay locked within
A mystery for all to try and solve
For those who care
Who might dare
To wonder,
