I'd said in my introductory blog that I wanted to do a tour so here it is.
I take a long time between idea and execution with all the tattoos that I have gotten. My first was when I was 21, it was just the Danzig skull. It was a long time before I had any more ink done, 16 years in fact. My ex wife didn't like tattoos so while we were together I didn't have anything done.
The bulk of my tattoos have been done by a very good friend of mine, Loger. We have been friends since I was 16 and he has done everything except the Danzig skull and the Dragon on my left arm. I had him make the skull into the dagger from Danzig III which is from Meister und Margeritha by H.R. Giger. When we discussed how to fill in around it Loger suggested the Gryphon and the Thistles from my Scottish and Irish background.
The Dragon on my left arm is from the first Dragonlance book and was done by a small shop as soon as I was separated from my ex wife, lol. To me, it represents my daughter as red dragons in the Dragonlance books are female and she was born in 2000 a year of the Dragon. Loger filled it out and said a dragon needs a castle.
My chest was next and it represents me fighting my demons. I almost died in early 2016 due to liver failure from alcohol abuse. I struggled to stay sober until I went to rehab in September of 2016 and I have been sober since then.
My back is my most recent, I paused the work on it over the summer and will get it finished in the next month or two. I had an artist draw up an initial design almost 20 years ago but I didn't understand tattoos as well then and I found the size of the subject daunting. My idea was to have my totem, a Great Blue Heron on the shore in front of an abandoned native village like I had seen when I was commercial fishing in the Queen Charlotte Islands as a young man. After agreeing on a couple of images to use as a base I have just let Loger freehand this as he sees fit.
Well, that's it for now, I hope you have enjoyed the tour.
Ink is addictive as you all well know so there will be more.
Have a great day!
