I truly enjoy when people describe and label themselves. It always makes me laugh. Especially when their actions contradict their descriptions and labels (as they nearly always do). People delusions and failure to accurately evaluate themselves is often the cause. Sometimes the delusions are due to stupidity, sometimes cowardice, sometimes vanity, sometimes it's a simple lack of testing hypotheses. I'm sure there are a few other reasons I'm missing but those seem to take care of the largest chunk of it.
When I see these contradictions I can't help but put those people in the "ridiculous" category in my head. Here's a little test that you can do in your head to make sure what you are saying rings true.
-Is there an example that someone could use to challenge this view?
-If someone were to challenge this would I feel threatened and defensive?
-Would someone challenging this be a reason I would stop talking to the challenger?
If the answer to two or more of these would be "yes" then it is probably not true and should not be said.
Perhaps I am wrong, feel free to disagree. However, should you disagree, be prepared to back your thoughts if you present your disagreement.
