Seville, Ohio is located in Medina county, a bit south of Cleveland. It has a little over 2,200 residents. The most famous residents are in Mound Hill Cemetery.
Anna Bates was born in Canada in 1846. At birth, she weighed in at 18 pounds. At the age of 5, she stood 5 foot 2 inches tall. It is believed she reached the height of 7 feet 5.5 inches. On January 19th, 1879 she gave birth to a 23.12 pound baby that survived only 11 hours. She died of consumption in 1888.
Martin Van Buren Bates was born in Kentucky in 1837. He grew to 7 feet 9 inches. He enlisted in the 5th Kentucky Infantry when the civil war started. Bates did rise to the rank of captain. While on tour in Halifax, Canada with a circus he met his future wife. Both at one point worked for P.T. Barnum.
At Mound Hill Cemetery, it isn't very hard to find the giants grave. First there is a sign pointing to the area it's located.
Secondly, it is rather hard to miss a giant statue. It's supposed to be a life size statue of Anna Bates.
