There was a bit of controversy back in October, 2013 at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati. It all concerned a couple Spongebob markers.
To me, somebody's grave marker is how the person wants to be remembered. What they were into. Some markers have just a name and dates. Others have photos, all sorts of colors and whatever else the person wanted.
The two Spongebob statues were placed behind the above granite slabs. Apparently Spongebob doesn't go with what Spring Grove thinks should be in the cemetery. Personally I like the spongebob markers but others say they are tacky. The markers aren't hurting anybody. To me, they bring a smile in a somewhat somber spot.
To me, it is amazing what can be put onto a marker. Photos, colors, all sorts of finishes on them. Big difference to what is done today as opposed to what was possible a hundred years ago. Have seen markers shaped like teddy bears, dolphins, bronze markers with tons of colors and so on.
IMHO, this one is way worse than the Spongebob markers.
