do you feel like you can look back on your life and isolate experiences that will stay with you forever and somehow altered your thinking or beliefs? i love the passage in nicholson baker's book (can't remember which one it is) where he talks about how our convictions change. how he *used* to think that it would be cool to decorate his apartment with pieces of earthmovers but somehwere between being 20 and 40 yrs old he stopped thinking that. and yet, he can't pinpoint a time when he suddenly switched his convictions.
that concept was pivotal for me: realizing that our minds can change/erode/morph so slowly it's almost undetectable to our consciousness. i must be mid cycle because i still feel like most of my convictions are in tact. but it makes me nervous!
Cigarette, you got me thinking!

I don't really know if Africa is more popular than any where else, but it's popular. You can go pretty much anywhere you would want to with similar ease, it depends on how much time and money you've got to spare!
