Snorting Pixie Sticks
Back when we were kids we used to snort Pixie Sticks
In our teens, me and my friend Maurice would sit and smoke on Bidis
Now hes got three kids
And I got a pack of Cloves and a studio apartment
I dont know why, but we both made our choices
I hear the voice of Biggie turn into Chuck D into Kool Moe Dee
And its elementary school in the white LA suburbs
Im trying to skateboard up curbs
When a homemade Run DMC tape
Falls out of my JimmyZ shorts
Basketball courts and book reports
And this is not nostalgic
I remember getting my ass kicked
Bullies and shy kids and comic books
This is not about childhood
Its about how good that Doug E Fresh song was
The first time Maurice played it for me
Then there was the fuzz of high school memory
The 40 ounce buzz
And that malt liquor sick stomach
Free style sessions at the house
Where someones mom and dad were out
That girl with that shirt and that look on that couch
That deep feeling of doubt is now almost gone
But so is that feeling of relieving it
As you sang along with your friends
To the first Wu-Tang
And this is not a look back through rose-colored glasses
This is a tagged-on backpack
Underneath your desk in your classes
When it was all about the test
And her chest and that ass
That note I just passed
I wrote the words I love you
She was 5 foot 2 and sweet
Wed meet again, ten years later and barely exchange a glance
Passing strangers who once proclaimed theyd spend a life together
Simple, innocent, stupid, scared
Paired up in couples and cliques
You cant touch the mix tapes I made
In the sixth, eighth and twelfth grades
But now I dont have shit to play them with
Because these days weve all just got I-Pods and discs
But Im not pissed, I just keep it moving on
Because somewhere kids are doing lines of Fun Dip and spitting words
And one plays for the other a sick song that hes never heard
Together they smile and party til dawn
Standing near their cars and someones moms front lawn
Holding Mickey bombs and cherry flavored cigars
That they just stole from Rite-Aid
