The only thing worse than waking up at 8 AM on a Saturday is waking up at 6:30. surreal

The morning hasn't been a total waste though. I did find some vehicles worth checking out later today.

{added a couple hours later}

Scratch that; no vehicles to look at anymore. Dr. Horrible was damn good though. biggrin

Rat bastards.

It wasn't enough to redo The Day the Earth Stood Still with Keanu Reeves as Klaatu; oh no. There's a remake of The Taking of Pelham One Two Three in the works as well. Why? That flick was a brilliant snapshot of early-'70s NYC. No slick cellular devices, no CGI, no vivid monitors on which to track the train. You had Ma Bell...

In my world there are no remakes of Gone in 60 Seconds, Italian Job, Planet of the Apes, Psycho, Rear Window, Texas Chainsaw Massacre.....and there are no prequels.

Can't say I was thrilled with the final few minutes of the thirteenth & final episode. The hour before that? Spectacular with flickers of RTD technobabble & camp. Daleks screaming in German was the icing on the cake. biggrin

Better get outside while there's still daylight. I have a frame to modify, doncha know.

I finally had a chance to watch the twelfth episode of the current season of Doctor Who tonight. I can sum up my feelings with this sentence:

Russell T. Davies, you are a right bastard for pulling that stunt in the last couple minutes of the episode. mad

I hope I don't keel over or become horribly incapacitated before Saturday night. That would never do. I'd...

True dat, but I'll take an itty bitty ad in a corner over the blinking, bleeping, constant motion that is MySpace.

So help me, I am going to make it through all of Cabin Fever this time. I have watched that movie three times in the past four years and I keep falling asleep less than halfway through. To a lesser man, that would be a sign that maybe--just maybe--this movie really isn't worth watching. I like this movie though; well, the portions I've been conscious...

It is ridiculously hot & humid right now, so I'm camped under the ceiling fan. It feels niiiiiiiiiiice.

(Sure could use a pool though. Not a fan of the maintenance, but a pool would be positively divine.)

Today was a day well-spent. Not only did I (finally) get a library card, I also found some stores I need to frequent more often. Details below the fold.

I awoke with the burning need to cash a check--$58.74 to be exact. Being the man that I am, I knew I could not let this day go to waste with just a mere bank run;...

Today I worked nine hours. Five of that paid for this morning's fill-up. skull

In less bitchy news, I have 10 more days to get my house shipshape before my parents arrive. In true SYH fashion, I'm not going to do damn thing until, oh, the day before they get here. biggrin

Tonight's movie selection: There Will Be Blood

Overrated dreck.

(I reserve making a detailed judgement until I have read Upton Sinclair's Oil! on which this movie is supposedly based.)

Blue Collar

Harvey Keitel, Yaphet Kotto, and Richard Pryor as Checker Motors autoworkers in 1977/8. When I saw that snippet of a synopsis the first time I saw this movie (between moves to MI, so 2000, I think), I thought Really? Those three? And it was made in Detroit? Sweet. biggrin I only saw two scenes (Yaphet Kotto being painted to death and Richard Pryor being...

Between working on the lawn, working on the Blazer, and roasting pork on my grill (many maple branches gave their carbon so I could have tasty tasty meat biggrin ), I found time to watch a few movies. A list with brief reviews follows:

  • Flesh Gordon I have yet to finish it. I started it last night but had to interrupt myself to cook dinner. I...

Further proof I am a product of my generation (no matter how much I may deny it):

Tonight's movie selection is The Deer Hunter. It's a calm, soothing, very laidback bit of cinema for a Wednesday night. Just after Michael, Nick, Steven, and Axel make asses of themselves towards the Vietnam vet, the band plays a lively Russian tune. I'll be damned if I...
