I have a little friend named Eli. He just turned 5 in September, and tonight he's having Halloween at Children's Hospital in St. Paul. Last Thursday when doctors at Children's were doing a routine appendectomy, they found a large tumor surrounding his left kidney and much of the abdominal vasculature including the vena cava and aorta. It had attached to the liver, the pancreas and the spleen, but does not appear to have metastacized *into* any organs (that's good). Most of the tumor was removed by a 4 surgeon team during an 8 1/2 hour surgery on Thursday evening, however some was left on the kidney and liver capsules due to the length of the surgery. Eli is the lucky son of two mommies (Mommy and Mama) and two daddies (Daddy and Dad) *grins* Long story involving two gay couples - even Rainbow Families doesn't quite know what to do with them, lol.
If you want to learn more about Eli, see pictures or give him some well wishes, you can visit his Caringbridge website. His family is very alternative (obviously) and knows about my involvement with suicidegirls, so you can mention that you heard about his hospital stay here.

Children's is a good hospital. I'm sure he'll be well soon. What a lucky kid to have two gay couples as parents! That would be awesome.
