Accidents Happen...
So I've been doing a lot of thinking about fate vs. coincidence. I used to believe in fate. Then I spent a lot of time in a pessimistic lull, believing nothing was ever planned and that everything was left up to chance.
I've always been a romantic at heart. Believing in fate is a more romantic notion; that somehow, on some cosmic level, things were aligned in a certain way for something to happen. Of course, when you meet someone amazing, you can't help but wonder if it was "supposed to happen."
Saturday night, one of the bartenders I work with's father was killed in a car accident. I could never be convinced that something like that happened for a reason, even if some people might argue that the reason isn't apparently clear, but its there.
The only conclusion I ever seem to come to is that accidents happen, and so does fate. Some things are meant to happen, and some things just happen on their own.
I don't believe that "everything happens for a reason." You hear that a lot. EVERYTHING is a big word.

I'm a believer in both free will and fate...complex, yes, but makes more sense than just one or the other. Maybe some day the reasons behind an even will become clear, maybe not. We'll probably never know.
I'm so sorry for your friend's loss. xxx
