so it was decided last night that we're going to be a cover band that plays a myriad of old hits as close to perfection as we can do it.
the thing is, i'm not looking to make my musical mark on the world and i don't have some illusion of grandeur... but i fucking kick ass at karaeoke and i might as well sing old patsy cline songs with a decent band rather than to some cheesy synthed-out singalong tape.
my suggestions for first songs to work on:
cruel to be kind. that's right, folks. 70's powerpop bubblegum to the max. it's got a bitchin' guitar solo i could bop around to.
son of a preacher-man. dusty springfield deserves a little tribute, i think... and i'd keep the song personal. i know it's sort of a vegas entertainer standard, but i'm not looking to belt out the powernotes... it's actually a sensual little song.
any other suggestions?
