Happy New Year to everybody in SG land.
Hope everyone had a great holiday. I spent the week in Tennessee, visiting my family. It was pretty nice -- I got to see a couple of old friends (who I hadn't seen in a long time), and generally was able to relax for the first time in a while. I also got a lot of great loot -- clothes, movies, and whatnot. My two favorite gifts: 1) a really cool (in a kitschy way) Darth Vader nesting doll, and 2) a new 80-gig iPod (which I have spent the past few days filling up). In general, it's the best Chrismas haul I've had since I was a kid -- I think my folks still feel a bit sorry for me (what with the being single and all, even though it's been 6 months now), and they're trying to make me feel better. What did you get for Christmas -- anything fun?
I spent New Year's Eve with my good buddy Pete, who had come to TN from NC to visit some college friends in Gatlinburg for a post-Xmas reunion (they even went to Dollywood ). Anyway, he ended up staying a couple of days longer than planned, and since he was there, we opted for a quiet New Year's Eve in my favorite local pub. It was nice, actually -- I don't think I'd have been up for a huge, crowded drunken bash. Maybe I'm getting old, but New Year's doesn't seem that big a deal to me these days. I'd rather go to a huge drunken bash on another night, when not everyone in the universe is doing the same thing. The best evenings of debauchery don't need any reason to happen other than themselves...
In other news, I've got a few days to relax before I go into rehearsals for the next opera, which promises to be a bitch of epic proportions. We're pretty much full-steam ahead for the rest of the season (only a week or so in between productions from now until mid-May). Calm before the storm and all that. On top of that, even though I rather detest New Year's Resolutions, I've set a few personal goals for 2008: quit smoking, lose weight, and generally sort myself the fuck out. It's a tall order, but here's hoping that 2008 is better than 2007. Onward and upward, right?
Anyway, hope everyone is well. Cheers!
