So, I find myself in Sarasota, Fl for the day. I came down here to audition some singers for my opera company. It's a nice enough town, if you're a beach person. Of course, it's raining, just like at home. But I did get to go and stand on the beach for a minute, just to see the ocean. Seemed like a shame to come all the way down here without seeing it, even if briefly. Tonight, off to see an opera and then (hopefully) free drinks at the after-party. Maybe I'll meet some hot chorus girls. Then, back on a plane in the morning.
What an odd place this is -- from February through April, it's a flurry of arts and entertainment and events. Then the snow birds go back up north, and things stay quiet. Even in the summer, this isn't a hot spot. It's pretty, though. My family used to come down here during the summer when I was a kid. Not as skeevy as Panama City.
Anyway, time enough for a quick nap before the show. Cheers.
Update -
The show wasn't too bad (not great, either, but not teribble, as I feared it might be). No hot chorus girls at the after-party. But there was free booze. Back home now, where it's cold. Thus ends my Florida weekend.
