OK, so I have safely returned home, having survived two -- that's right, TWO -- Thanksgiving Dinners in one day. Both sets of grandparents live within 20 minutes of each other, so that means every year we have an early dinner with my mom's side of the family at around noon, then trek across town to my dad's side for another full dinner around 4 pm. And of course, I eat a plate-full at both places. Let's just say that I'll be avoiding turkey for a few weeks. It's even crazier at Christmas. Oh, and did I mention that there are about 70 people involved at these gatherings? Whew.
Family is great and all, but the good part is always sneaking away to hang out with old friends from home. I got to visit my best friend from high school (and meet his new baby -- my second god-daughter), and then go drinking with another of my dearest friends. It's kind of fun to go to a bar on Thanksgiving night -- seeing all the other people who are escaping from family functions.
The best part -- another friend gave me a limited-edition Industrial Light & Magic t-shirt, only available at trade conventions. It's dark khaki, with a small picture of Boba Fett's head on the chest. Very cool.
