Dear Annoying Waiter,
When I order a Guiness, please, please refrain from making the tired old jokes. I know that here in America people predominantly drink much lighter beers. I know that here in America, for some unfathomable reason, people even elect to drink beers with 'Light' in the name. I even know that Guiness carries a bit more mass and texture with it than...

Is it just me, or does Kill Bill inspire one to play Ninja Gaiden??
I went and ripped my way through the Palisades 60 fiend challenge in Chapter 10. It was great.

The enthralling gentle purr of a precision engineered Audi engine is only surpassed by the roaring might as it launches me forward through the pouring night. The blissful bite of acceleration penetrates, the world melts away as hot leather seizes me, and for precious few seconds I feel free.

Hey, I just saw a post of yours on Code Monkeys and I thought I'd relate that I just did something similar to what you did.
I am writing regression tree software that works on collections of beans. I don't have a getClassification style interface like yours. Instead, I pass the name of the target property and get it through reflection. Soon I'll be able to experiment with different (pluggable) partitioning criteria.

That would definitely be the cleaner interface, honestly, and I'd considered it ex post facto but seeing as I'm not actively developing that bit anymore it's going to stagnate.
I've read that the JCL is considering adding data mining tools (largely statistical classifiers and the afformentioned id4 type implementation).
The other thing I wanted to do was generate a set of boolean properties from collections, ie if a List contained {"Foo", "Bar", "Baz"} then it would generate properties of hasFoo hasBar and hasBaz which all == true and would allow you to make decisions based on the precense of elements in collections. =)

If I had one regret about this car it would be the paranoia I suffer the minute I park it next to anything else.
People are so hideously stupid that I worry it will be a matter of time until it's dinged.

I'm still alive.
I can't listen to "The Outsider" enough.
S4 is superfun. I still feel like I'm a snob for buying it.
I don't care.
Spent a couple hours at the office tonight thinking about my poor old Saab, while I was keeping a friend company so he wouldn't go insane testing our product.

would you say it's respect, disdain or what?
swanage:
Respect from people for all the wrong reasons, it's the strongest reaction.
Apart from that, the opinions of people whom I care about haven't really changed that much at all, as I'd expect they wouldn't.

As I take a nice long sip of Guiness, savoring the bitter taste before swallowing, I wonder if I could drink enough tonight to make the pain subside.
There's a general malaise in my bones. not the sort of thing that comes with being sick; just weariness. Muscles all over are inexplicably sore. My spirit is also weary, though that is another matter.

Sorry! I had a shitty week. I wouldn't have been very good company anyway.
Some other time I hope?!

"Be careful what you wish for, you might get it."
True words. I don't know that I'd say I regret what I was wishing for. But things aren't as cut and dry as I thought they were in the hypothetical fog of my mind.
Would I take back my wishes and my actions that lead up to the events of today? No.

The combination of apprehension and excitement makes for a powerful disturbance of balance. I'm confident that things will work out from here on out for myself, but I'm not so confident in what the results will be for all parties involved.
Of course if I did know, life would be that tiny bit more dull.
