Looks like today is a day of mixed feelings.
This may end up long, may end up short.
Most weekends I am away from the computer and doing something... but mostly nothing. This weekend was something.
Friday night I had weigh-ins for my first powerlifting competition. Weighed in at 117.5 kilograms... about 258 pounds, which is good down from 276 pounds in december. That night was a feast, gain as much weight back as I could before the morning. I grabbed some organic meat a few days before hand and made a huge thing of pasta with meat... so so good. then I hit the hay.
Woke up early and ate a good breakfast and was off to the eat end of toronto to compete! Got in, got the rules, squeezed into my nut hugging singlet and found out! I'm in the fourth "flight", they go by groups of lifters, since I was in the heavier weight class, I got to go last!. A day I thought would go from 9am to about 3pm ended up going until 7pm... ten hours.
First was squats. I nailed my opener of 185kg, felt good but playing it safe, went up 10kg to 195. I got 195 half way up, got stuck and just couldn't finish it... balls. It got into my head and the third attempt I just bombed and just could get the weight up.
Next was bench. After watching the women go, all of the other competitors started to get nervous. There is a pause at the bottom of the lift, where you show control of the bar at your chest... Normally you get control and then they give you the press command to bring the bar up. not today, they made us wait. Hit my opener of 110kg, but after that it was a no go on my second and third attempts... meh, I suck a bench.
Last of deadlift, my lift.
Opened at 200kg, smoked it. Went up smoothly and easily. Second was 210kg, again, I looked like a monster and tore it off the floor. Last I went for 501 pounds, and!... it went about an inch off the floor.
Overall, I ended with a 505kg total and good enough to get me third place in the 125kg class. I'm happy with that, another medal to add to the case.
The day was fun, lots of laughs, lots of records, and just lots of meeting new and fun people. I enjoyed the day and cannot wait until the meet in March at my gym, I'm helping at it so it'll be not as hard and more fun for me to watch than to have to worry about killing myself.
This week is a short week for me, thursday I leave for Columbus to go to the Arnold Sports festival, all the fake tans, big muscles, and douchbaggery I can handle! also all the chalk dust, screw loose, painful lifting I can handle too. It'll be a freak show and I'm going to love it.
Last thing, I have been better so thank you to all that showed concern.
Though one sad note, I found out this morning one of my employees past away this weekend. A very sad thing indeed, he was a very good man.
This may end up long, may end up short.
