OMG! I didn't know my blog was on the FP until just recently...I feel so special. <3 I'll have to catch up on the other SG homework blogs from @charmaine too, so I can let you guys get to know me better. ;)
I'm going to start off with the one asking me to list ten random facts about me first.
1- I'm a HUGE cat person! My furbabies are a very integral part of my life, and have gotten me safely through many bad times in our lives.
The black one is Shadow, and our tiny wonder there is the Hyrulean Hero, Link. Both our boys adopted us at different times in our lives. Shadow came first when I first got out of the military and was struggling with depression. We found him at a pet store in Denver, and when I went to go give him back, he didn't want to let go. He perched on my shoulders the entire time we filled out the paperwork, and came into Petsmart with us to pick out his own collar. I asked him what he wanted to be named, and when I said "Shadow" he chirped. (Yes, he sometimes thinks he's a bird.)
Link is our California kitty. We were visiting some family out in Riverside when he showed up one morning at 4:30am. He was absolutely tiny, and when we got him home to Phoenix where we were living at the time, we took him to the vet, who said he was barely a month old, poor thing. He's been with us ever since, and despite having to have emergency surgery because of an infection in his intestines, he still loves to play. He's gotten fat because they removed part of his thyroid, but is still very active, so he's just going to remain our chubby baby. He's also got a foot fetish haha. He'll even try to steal your socks from right off your feet!
2- I absolutely love to read! My first ever online username was "bukwurm2004" back in the days of Yahoo chatrooms and roleplaying. My dad taught me how to read when I was 3 years old, but forgot to tell me I needed to slow down. So I'm a fast voracious reader who devours giant piles of books at a time. Funnily enough, that's how I got a job at my local library during high school. I was always there, so if they needed help reshelving books, I'd be the first to volunteer. Then a paid position opened up, and the teen librarian (who'd gotten to know me REALLY well by then) hired me on the spot because she knew I'd never be late, and always make sure all the books were put away correctly. Working there also gave me a chance to discover many new authors I never would have dreamed of trying until I went to shelve them. The only reason I left was I enlisted in the military.
3- I consider myself to be a nerd, because of all the things I absolutely love. I'm big into Harry Potter (Go Slytherin!!), the Marvel universe, and Lord of the Rings. I also became a fan of Firefly thanks to my husband. While we still lived in Phoenix, he just happened to decide to watch the entire season for New Year's, and I overheard River talking about the cows not knowing they were cows while in space but now that they were on land again, they were cows again. My initial response was "WTF ARE YOU WATCHING??" and he said "Firefly." So I came over and sat on the couch (forgoing the naked ladies on SG chat for this, so I must have definitely been interested haha) and we watched it together. Now I consider myself a browncoat, and just wish they'd never canceled this wonderful show. I now definitely fangirl over Nathan Fillion on Castle. ;)
4- I'm studying to become an RN. It's a bit scary trying to prepare myself for the entrance exam to get into nursing school, so I keep chickening out because I've never studied physics or chemistry. Getting into the program I'm hoping for hinges on doing well on this test. Plus I have to pay like $60 just to take the test. Oi. I'm already certified as an EMT, so I'm not too worried about the actual job itself. What makes me sad is that I wish I'd known earlier what I wanted to be "when I grow up" instead of having to wait about 10 years. Sheesh!
5- I'm a Raiders fan! Win, lose or tie, I'll bleed silver and black til I die! :)
6- I'm in the process of trying to organize a Pink Pinups for the Cure calendar to sell to benefit breast cancer research over here in the north western states (Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, etc) because of the success a friend of mine has had over on the east coast with a Leafin' Cancer Behind campaign. Things I strongly believe in I will put a ton of effort and time into, because I know that you get out of it what you put in, and to make a change, it has to start with one person. :)
7- I consider myself a gamer. I may have come late to the game (not til I was in high school), but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy it just as much as someone who started off as a young child. I'm also not limited to video games, I enjoy a good game of D&D or Magic:the Gathering. Some of my favorite video games to play are HALO, Mass Effect, Dragon Age: Origins, and Soul Caliber IV. I've also thoroughly enjoyed learning to play Perfect Dark on the N64. I take part in a monthly game night at my church, and we've had tons of fun. I played one game last month that was called "Tsuro" or something like that? After one game through, I dubbed it "the Hunger Games of Zen" haha.
8- I've recently starting shooting more pin-up style images, and have been trying to go more vintage, but those victory curls are a bitch, man. Especially when your hair doesn't want to cooperate without a ton of hairspray and bobby pins haha. Here, have a few pics from my first few shoots. ;)
9- I'm former military. I enlisted twice, once at 17, and once again in 2011. Both times I went Army Reserves, the only thing that really changed was my signing bonus and my job. The second time around I went in as a combat medic, which is when I finally figured out what I want to be "when I grow up". I'm not gonna lie, I kinda miss it, but at the same time, if I were still in, I couldn't be here. C'est la vie!
and last but not least, good ole number ten. This one's a doozy. I may look great in those photos above, but what you can't see is that I was in severe pain. So for number ten, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. I'm not even 30 yet, and I've already had a hysterectomy. That's the big surgery I keep referring to. Thankfully, I'm doing much better now, it's just gonna take a while to heal up and get back to where I need to be physically.
So there they are folks! Hope you enjoyed!
xoxo
