I've always been obsessed with mechanical things, but it's gotten much worse recently. So much so that I'm seriously contemplating two rather major purchases. Namely, a motorcycle and a gun.

I'm cognizant of the fact that both are symbols of power, but that's not really why I'm into them. I've always loved the "cruiser" style of motorcyle, both aesthetically and mechanically. The lines, the chrome, the speed. The sense of a complex and dangerous device under tenuous control by an easily damaged sack of bone and fluid. Maybe it's because the stakes and risks are higher with a motorcyle than with a car. Or maybe I just like gears, shiny things and going fast. I'm looking at the Yamaha V-Star line of cruisers at the moment.

The gun thing is a little more obscure. The mechanical aspect is still the major attraction, but there's more to it than that. I absolutely loathe hunters, the NRA, and I think Charlton Heston is the anti-Christ. I have no desire to go out and kill things. I'm looking at small-ish handguns at the moment. Glock 30, to be precise.

As an aside, I decided about 2 years ago that I had to have a motorcycle, and I signed up for a training course, the successful completion of which would give me my motorcycle license. It went fine, right up until the point where I dropped the bike in a turn, tearing up my elbow and knee. I still have asphalt in my knee. You'd think that would be a sign, right? I choose to take it as a sign that while everyone who rides a motorcycle takes a fall, I've already had mine, so the odds are better for me. biggrin

P.S.: I have a huge fucking headache right now. It feels like gnomes are trying to get out of my skull via my eyeball. Their tiny hammers are very painful.

I do indeed know people who still call things "women's work". My mother for one. She is part of the problem. I don't even care that they want to divide work by gender. Well I do, but, mostly I just want them to think about the fact that the women on the farm are outnumbered by a factor of 12 to 1. My mom practically runs three households. It is just too much. Somebody has to step up and help out. My dad is coming around though. Just going to take some time.

You were probably kidding, but, I wouldn't be surprised if I don't have to kick a few asses and crack some heads before this is over. Which is fine. To be honest I have been looking for an excuse to kick some of those asses for years. wink
