Reviews for Meshuggah Video!
We have been getting a ton of attention on this project and some of the comments are hysterical!
"Here's the video for "Bleed," the standout track from Meshuggah's recent album obZen. Okay, so maybe the metaphor is a little heavy-handed. The peaceful, bearded and plaid flannel-wearing everyman, both repulsed and intrigued by his own primal tendencies, is eventually transformed by them. But on a purely visual level, this clip is spectacular, with some freaky human/corpse hybrids worthy of a Tool video. Dig the multi-limbed figure that appears towards the end. So serene. So brutal. The perfect incarnation of the obZen ("obscene" + "Zen") concept. He looks just like Ben Kingsley, yeah? This edit is a couple minutes shorter than the album version, but that's ample time to appreciate the genius of Meshuggah. Listen to Tomas Haake's drumming especially. His feet could be in Mensa. "Holy mother of f***ed up nightmares...and I thought that the album cover was sick. LOL. Meshuggah forever !!!" - Meshuggah Fan
"it is awesome! Much respect for doing something different - outside of the terrible clichs that comprise most metal videos these days. Thanks!" Meshuggah Fan
"Coolest part is when the freaky lady cuts the thread. The riff fits his face well haha. About 3/4ths in." - Fan
"Bummer they cut it short, I hear they do that live too, but still amazing. I have a
feeling those slave creatures are symbolic of us Americans..." - fan
"yeah, that was a pretty good video!
"i just wish i knew what it means... i can tell the main guy gets coverted to one of those wierd gollum-like things, and that the ObZen cover guy is supposed to be the God/Overseer of it all... but what does it mean??" - Fan
"The way I see it is: ObZen guy= media/stimulus overload particularly in America. By
taking it all in and becoming obsessed with all these programs and things where we
are entertained by the suffering of others we are enslaved-> "gollum-like things."
Kind of reminds me of the lyrical concept behind Vicarious. This is of course only one
interpretation so feel free to disagree : )
-Oh yea and the cut thread happening when he is chained around his neck probably
has something to do with him losing his humanity/individuality/etc." - Fan
"I don't have much to say about Mesuggah's new video for "Bleed" (directed by by Ian McFarland & Mike Pecci), except that I can't wait to get home, get high, and watch in it a proper state of mind. It's almost - almost - on the level of video making we've come to expect from Tool. So, here it is smoke 'em if ya got 'em" - Axl Rosenberg Metal Sucks.net
"Very Guillermo Del Toro (sorta'). Me gusta!" - Fan
"I love Meshuggah, but I'm not so sure about the video. It's pretty cool, but it doesn't really tickle my balls. I think if Adam Jones would have directed it, that shit would've been 100% smokingly bad-ass. That's just me, though." - kindof a fan
"So the bald guy's power is to turn people into Doyle from the Misfits and chain them to a throne? Horrifying." - Fan
