What do you do when someone is obviously mentally ill?
My boyfriend has a friend who has spent the last few days with us. They have known each other for roughly 21 years. His friend scares the shit out of me and i really don't want him in my house.
Explanation:
we'll call this friend 'B'
So, B hasn't had the easiest life and is in a pretty shitty situation right now. He's in the process of recovering from a very traumatic physical injury and is living in an abusive situation. He has no money and no prospective job and is facing over $1 mil in medical expenses. These factors make me want to help him in any way possible because he is generally a nice guy. However, in the time he has spent here, he has gotten extremely intoxicated repeatedly. My boyfriend enables him. B drinks vodka straight from the bottle in HUGE gulps. What he calls a shot is roughly 8-10 oz of hard liquor. In addition to this he has been taking more than the prescribed dosage of the Percocet he was given for his injuries. All of this makes me feel extremely uncomfortable. To make matters worse, he's experiencing hallucinations and delusions while under the influence. He has a very loose grasp on reality. Yesterday morning, we left him alone for a mere twenty minutes and when we returned B had consumed roughly 12 oz of hard liquor (to take his meds with, of course) and yet he fully denied drinking anything. He was dumped about a week ago but is in complete denial (thinks they're having a fight) and when i spoke to her about it she said he'd threatened her repeatedly. While intoxicated yesterday he began talking about bugs under his skin and wanting to get a knife to cut them out. He believes that he is schizophrenic and that he NEEDS alcohol to suppress the symptoms, however, the hallucinations and delusions only seem to occur when he's intoxicated.
What the fuck am i supposed to do? I know that when he is sent home he will be both physically and mentally abused and no one will be around to monitor his drinking +/or his medication. He clearly does not have the capacity to make sound decisions and seems determined to continue his dangerous behavior.
My options seem to be (a) Take on a caregiver position and have him monitored by myself or my boyfriend 24/7 until he has been sober long enough to have a rational conversation (b) call adult protective services hoping his past mental health experiences are enough for them to get legally involved or finally (c) throw my hands in the air and wait for the day when i find out he is either dead, jailed, institutionalized or best case scenario that he is happy, healthy and was able to do it without my assistance.
Help? Please, I'm rather frightened and worried.

I think B is the better idea...he needs help that you simply cannot provide.
