There is a special level of hell reserved for anybody who spoils Harry Potter for me or anybody else before I have a chance to read it.
At the time of the last one's launch, my then-gf and I made getting to the bookstore the very first order of the day (that involved quite a walk back then, in my pre-Fleamobile days). I let her read it first, because she's a much faster reader than I am. By around eleven at night, if memory serves, she had finished it and I was tearing through it.
This time, I'm willing to put it off for a few days. I'm driving up to visit my parents for the better part of next week, so I'll either pick up the book before I leave here or after I arrive there and try to stretch the reading out for a good chunk of my vacation.
It's an interesting reflection on our current state of media saturation. I think, that I dread not being able to escape spoilers from an approximately 700 page novel in its first week of release.
I vaguely remember the mischief caused by the SomethingAwful crew last time, where I think their lead story was called something like Harry Potter and the HERMIONE DIES!!!
Hopefully there'll be no such tomfoolery this time around.
I fucking hate this heat. I like a nice hot summer at least as much as the next guy. But this is unreasonable.
When you gonna ring it?
When you gonna ring it?

I just finished it. I don't plan to breathe a word about it to anyone unless THEY start the conversation and let me know exactly where they are. I'm really good at not giving things away, even unintentional things like using certain adjectives (slow, depressing, uplifting, etc).
I avoided the internet, SG, and my email. I'm glad they released it on a Saturday because I didn't want to chance someone at work crowing about it. OOtP was ruined for me, so I was extra-paranoid this time.
And I'm waiting until either the paperback comes out or someone is willing to lend me their copy. so I might have to be careful for a considerable period of time.
