A bunch of new CDs yesterday.
One of the radio stations was doing a punk retrospective and I heard Mission of Burma's "That's When I Reach For My Revolver", so I had to track that down.
I couldn't find it originally, but picked up Moby's "Animal Rights" which had a cover of it. It's not a particularly good cover, but I wanted to at least have a version of the song. What kills me is that Catherine Wheel (one of my favourite bands, for those keeping score) has done a version of the song that Mission of Burma have themselves praised heavily, but I have virtually no chance of finding a copy of it. Boo!
In the evening, I successfully tracked down a Mission of Burma retrospective with the song. I also wound up picking up Fugazi's "13 Songs" (the band before us in my very first battle of the bands back in high school did a killer version of "Waiting Room" and I always wanted to own the original) as well as a PiL compilation. I was feeling all post-punky and such.
I wonder if I could ever find enough musicians who dug equally Black Flag, Black Sabbath, and Black Grape so that I could start a band that could go in any of those directions. Hmm.
Oh, and I picked up The Wall. Not because I really intend to listen to it, but because I didn't yet own it, and it was only fourteen bucks.
That's just the type of cat I am.
The unpacking continues, but one of my friends is taking me out for dinner, saying I'm due a break. I'm not inclined to argue with her.
Cheers all - have a great weekend.
