Check it, yo.
Still thrilled about snagging great Cure tickets. I hope anybody interested in the Toronto show caught my tip about getting the pre-order before tix went on sale to the general public.
I went to see the new Riddick movie on Friday with the cats from work. It looks great, but really raises the bar for dumb and pointless. The narrative is badly constructed and often irrelevant, the characters are all inconsequential and the acting is completely unimpressive, and the film features the single most stupid line I've heard in recent memory.
The filmmakers really go out of their way to beat you over the head that Riddick has this essential primality - that he is equal parts man and animal. A Manimal, if you will. And one of his mannerisms, given one pointless mention in both this film and Pitch Black, which preceded it in what have become 'The Chronicles of Riddick', is that he gets off on sniffing women. (If you pay attention to the films, you'll also notice that he has a fixation on little girls, but we don't need to go there.)
So, when a shrink-wrapped Thandie Newton sashays too close, he eagerly sniffs at her hair, explaining "It's been a long time since I smelled beautiful."
I felt bad laughing at its horridness, but I couldn't spare myself. And even though I detest calling out things at the screen, the theatre was almost exclusively populated by my co-workers, and I couldn't hold back from saying "Oh, Vin, I'm sure you smell just fine."
ANYHOO.
At least the game kicks an assload of ass.
Not much else going on this weekend. I spent some time with the Law & Order Season 2 box set (if it's supposed to come with any kind of insert, mine didn't - and there are some glitches in the video - it blows my mind how unreliable a delivery format DVD really is). I've also been geeking out with City of Heroes, and basking in a nifty immortalization in print I found out about. That's about it.
Oh, and sweet mother of God - I don't know what's in that new 6% Canadian they're hawking, but my entire crew was epically hung over come Friday morning after Thursday night's escapades in the VIP lounge thanks to the fine promotional crew from Molson Breweries.
You kids playing nice? Keeping out of trouble?
