I took Friday off work and put some real kilometres on the car (up over 2500 now!) to go and visit my parents for the weekend. (My gf and I are from the same city so I got to drop her off at her parents' place, too.)
It's always great to go home, although as the years pass, there are fewer and fewer reasons (aside from my family, of course) to head up as more and more of my friends migrate elsewhere. I didn't even hit my old watering hole for old time's sake, because I realized that virtually nobody I'd want to see would be there anymore. Still, I got to see a couple of old friends, and that was wonderful. I let my dad take my car for a spin, and that was neat. I got to treat my parents to dinner at a really nice restaurant, which was a novel experience. And I got to play with my dogs, which is probably my very favourite thing to do.
I have learned that an astonishing percentage of drivers are absolute asshats. But I managed to cover a pretty hefty percentage of the province on the trip, and all those miles of highway passed under the tires without serious incident. And it was neat. I learned today that I prefer a two hour standstill in my own vehicle, with an iced tea in the beverage holder and Talking Heads in the CD player, to two hours cruising along on the bus.
For the first time in a long time, the actual travelling part of a trip home was a joy.
Did you all have a good weekend?

I am never that busy that I can't find time for the Superflea and the photogrrl. I have rehearsals on Saturdays (usually) from 10-5, then I'm free.
