Janine, I drink you up
Janine, I drink you up
Janine, Janine...
If you were the Baltic Sea
And I were a cup...
Ugh. Another 'awoken in the night with stomach mayhem' night. Figures - this is the first night I'd have been able to get a proper amount of sleep in a couple of days, so why not ruin it with a couple of hours of nastiness!!!
Damn you, mediocre pizza I had for dinner. I may not be able to prove it, but I'm certain you did this to me!!!
So why the lack of sleep? Well, I spent Sunday evening in Toronto to catch an absolutely sublime Mike Doughty concert, which meant I was on a very early bus to make it back home for work in the morning. The show was brilliant. Mike (formerly of Soul Coughing) has been one of my favourite singers for years now, and seeing him live was every bit as important to me as seeing somebody like David Bowie. He's definitely a musical hero, and he put on such a fantastic show. I've never witnessed such an easygoing rapport with an audience. It was commanding showmanship at its very finest, which is quite a feat when you're just one dude with a stratocaster on an otherwise (effectively) empty stage. The crowd singalong to "Janine" managed to be an even more transcendent experience than being part of a "Hey, ho, let's go!" chant when I saw the Ramones. I still say Doughty's newest EP "Rockity Roll" is the absolute best CD I heard last year, and I urge you to check it out.
I did not, unfortunately, get to hang out with dogslife, who was hoping to come out and catch the show (and be introduced to my friends as "this guy I met on a porn site"
). Turns out he got some exotic disease from being bitten by a tsetse fly the size of your fucking head or something. Not feeling up to snuff in any case, which was a damned shame. If you're reading this, matey, I hope you're feeling much better now. We'll get 'em next time. Arr. Neither did I manage to meet up for lunch with the lovely and talented photogrrl. This one was more due to poor scheduling on my part, and my almost complete inability to make any kind of plan more than approximately a minute in advance. Disappointing, to be sure, as they're both among the very coolest people on the site, but, with the magic of the rain cheque, I'm sure we'll do it up next time I hit the Dot.
I had to cut sleep shorter than I'd like on Monday, because I had an early morning dentist appointment (and boy oh boy am I ever not sick of them yet). The major work is behind me now, but there are still some small things to be taken care of. It's my own damn fault for not being more regular about my checkups and too liberal with the Coca-cola. But I think it's almost over.
I'm almost certainly buying my beloved Mazda in the next couple of days. I might have to jump through some hoops to get my College transcript (because I qualify for a graduate rebate if I provide it), as every single administrative process at the College I went to seemed designed for maximum fuckery of the students. I have a tremendous respect for the educational system, but at some level, I think there needs to be more of a recognition that they are in many ways a service industry, and people are paying a lot of money to better themselves in those hallowed halls, and should be treated accordingly.
I don't think it's too much to ask that I be able to call up, request my transcript, and just have somebody call up my name in the computer and hit PRINT, then turn around and stuff said printout in a fax machine, so that I can get that document (which is worth $600 to me at this point) that day to present to the dealer. But nooooooooo... I have to submit a written request, and then wait five days before they will mail it to me. So that's another... what, week???
Oh boy!
Argh. But I've managed to jump the line, so to speak, with a bit of politeness in the past. Hopefully I'll be able to pull something off in a timely fashion. The important thing, after all, is the car. My car.
I like the sound of that.
Anyways, I think I'm going to give sleep another spin. You kids stay loose.
