I had a fantastic long weekend - booked an extra day off and went up to catch up with ma. I always wrestle with calling the house "my parents' place" or "my mom's place" since my father passed away. (The grammarian in me realizes I can continue to call it "my parent's place" and just move the apostrophe so nobody will know.) It was four days of low key relaxation, with a little helping around the house, a little going through some of my old stuff and setting some of the things I'll never use free, and a lot of home cooking and playing with the dog. It was a grand way to spend a few days. Better yet, because of my travel plans, I completely missed holiday traffic in both directions. Sweet.
I'm really digging on the new Slipknot record. Usually, with music that heavy, I'll just throw on an album and hit a couple of key tracks, and get it out of my system. The hallmark for me with a heavy record is that I can listen to it end to end. The only albums in recent memory that have hit that mark with me are Mastodon's "Blood Mountain" (which I still think is the best album to come out in recent memory) and Dethklok's "The Dethalbum".
With "All Hope Is Gone", not only do I listen end to end, but I'll let it loop and listen through again. If your tastes turn at all to the heavy side, it's heavily recommended.
