This waiting is killing me.
Fortunately, I think the heat will get me first.
Still no word from Company #1 (recap - two long phone interviews, now they want an on-site interview and were just waiting for me to get a passport to hook it up, which I've since obtained) or Company #2 (one phone interview and one text interview). I'm not sure where I sit with Company #2, so if they found somebody they liked better, I can deal with that. But Company #1... you... you said you'd call.
I'm still trying to stay positive, which is being subtly reinforced by the television. Seems like every show I watch has something to do with California lately. I'm still bouncing back and forth between being mortified at leaving the girl, the family, the dog, and at least two guitars behind, and being absolutely thrilled at the prospect. I'm trying to keep myself busy by deciding what I'll bring to read on the plane. At the top of the list is this, recommended to me by Flux back in the day, because I haven't gotten around to reading it yet.
Or maybe I'll just bring my PSP and play Grand Theft Auto the entire time.
If everything goes as planned, I'll head down one day, interview the next morning, and fly back that evening. Then, if the final stage goes well, I'll be bugging Bean for access to the hallowed halls of SGLA. (I've applied, but perhaps one must be a resident and not an aspiring resident to get the nod.)
I made a new gear buddy last night, which is fantastic. I was getting my geek on in World of Warcraft, and our raid chat somehow turned into a big guitar nerdfest. Turns out one of our Warlocks is nearly as big a guitar whore as me, so we wound up swapping photos and old Cubase MP3s far into the evening. (She plays a glorious G&L tele, but still had an "Oooh" for my Parker Fly Deluxe.)
Because of some of the peculiarities of my last working situation, I had become much less involved with music. (Granted, a crippling WoW addiction isn't helping matters any.) It was the best experience last night to have a long chat with somebody who has the same decade-plus infatuation with the instrument that I do, and to reconnect with some of my old music. It's been enough time since I heard so much of this material that it's incredibly gratifying to hear it now and think, "Wow, that's really good!!!"
How you crazy kids doing? Think LA is ready for me?
