Ok, now I'm not sure if I should be really amused or really pissed about this...
I have this apprentice at work. She's not very experienced, and is actually pretty lazy. 2 weeks ago, she called in sick on Tuesday, then just didn't show up the rest of the week. No calls, no nothing, just no-show. Friday afternoon, I saw her pull into the jobsite and walk into the office. I figured she was stopping by to fill out her time card or whatever. Later on, the boss tells me he didn't see her at all. After looking around a bit, we realized all her tools (which she normally leaves there) were gone. We were thinking that maybe she just quit.
Last week, again didn't show up....no phone calls, no nothing. Boss tried calling her, other workers tried calling her...nothing. Boss figures she must have quit. He sends termination papers to the main office and starts calling other people to replace her.
Monday, she shows up. "oh, I was in the hospital the whole time (if you were in the hospital, how the hell did you come in to pick up your tools?...oh, and where's your discharge paperwork from the hospital?) I don't have any papers from the hospital, but here's a note from my doctor"
Today I hear from a guy I know...turns out, she went to work with another company and got herself fired within a week because no one there could get her to work. So she figured she'd just stroll on back to us. Hey, I'm all about second chances, and anyone who knows me knows that I'm a huge supporter of proper training on the job. I would gladly take almost anyone who is willing to work and wants to learn, and make them the best electrician they can possibly be. However, if you bullshit me, I can be fucking ruthless.
Moral of the story, this is a small fucking island, people! Be honest, be cool, otherwise people will find out about it. Doesn't take long to develop a bad reputation around here.
