My favorite riddle might be easy for you all to guess- if you know me, you know I'm OBSESSED with the Middle Earth universe- I have three tattoos from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit! Naturally, my favorite riddle is from the popular "Mines of Moria" scene in LOTR the Fellowship of the Rings:
"Speak, friend, and enter."
I love this riddle because it amuses me to think that Gandalf, the all powerful wizard, is stumped by his own over-complication of this clever little play on words. If you've read the books or seen the movies, you'll know the answer to the riddle is simply, "Mellon," which is the Elvish word for friend.
Actually, I love this riddle SO MUCH, I have "Mellon" tattooed on me! It kind of reminds me to take a step back sometimes and examine the "whole question," if you will- sometimes when things seem complicated and I'm struggling it's because, like Gandalf, I'm over-complicating something deceivingly simple.
