Travel guide Australia
Goodday! @dollyd here, How you going? Okok, so now you know a bit of Aussie lingo we can get to it. I’m going to give you some highlights on where to visit. This was pretty hard, as I’ve lived in and visited alot of Australia and there’s just so much to do, experience and learn. I’ve narrowed it down to ensure when you come and visit, the must dos are done!
I've travelled around Australia roadtripping for years and passed through/lived in 6/7 states! So I've got the inside scoop. But firstly, let's clear a few stereotypes up!
Australia myths “everything wants to kill you! Or attack you!”– yes I hear you with the sharks, crocodiles, spiders, snakes, weird dinosaur looking birds, box jellyfish, stingrays, drop bears etc. But seriously, I’m a British Australian, I grew up with the most terrifying animal being a cow. If I’ve decided to make Australia my forever home it can’t be that bad...
“Its always summer in Australia” – To confuse you, I’m here to tell you when it’s summer in America, it’s winter in Australia and visa versa. It totally depends on the state, we get snow in the mountains and Tassie sees snow in high altitude in summer!
“They all drink fosters beer” – I’m yet to see a fosters beer being served anywhere in Australia!
Things to pack
-camera
-suncream - I'm talking the high grade 50+ trust me, you'll crisp in summer.
-insect repellent
Sydney/new south Wales
City escape – go looking for the hidden bars in Sydney. No clues on how to find them on this one, but if you like fancy cocktails and posh whisky matched with dark moody bar scenes you’re in luck. Catch a show at the Opera house, and if you're easy going on heights the harbour bridge climb at sunset is awesome.
Blue mountains – Go and see the 3 sisters, they’re one of my favourite trios. There’s waterfalls, walking tracks and this cool sky lift so you cruise amongst the treetops.
Pop down the road to jervis bay and enjoy the whitest silica sand. Grab a paddle board and a go pro and go see what you can capture in the clear water.
Fancy snowboarding or skiing in the winter- hit up Jindabyne. Here’s some snaps from my trip driving through. That water was almost frozen!
Melbourne/Victoria
Music. Art. Coffee. They’re the three words that come to mind for Melbourne city. Go on a graffiti wall tour, with said coffee and pop in the op shops for some vintage steals. (Thrift/charity stores)
The night-life is pretty great; whenever in town I go and visit my fellow sg babes who are in the strip clubs doing what they do best. Remember, TIP THE GIRLS!
Take a hike! No seriously, go to the Dandenong Ranges and enjoy a day in nature, or take a drive to the great Ocean road and take In the coastal bliss.
Brisbane/Queensland
I cant speak much for brisbane itself, but i have been to far north tropical queensland; cairns. Its humid as! There’s thunderstorms and sweltering heat. I do recommend going to the Daintree forest. It’s luscious greenery reminds me of that series ‘lost.’ Pick up some Daintree coffee from the local shop on your way through and explore the abandoned hotels if you’re brave enough. Just to careful sleeping on the beach, I slept in a swag close to the creek and had no idea a female croc also called that place home!!
Hobart/Tasmania
My most recent state to visit is tassie! So this was really hard to cut so many amazing experiences.
I went with a car and rooftop tent ⛺️ ☺️ and free-camped most of my time. Visit the mountains, all of the wineries and breweries. Spot a Tasmanian devil or go to a sanctuary to see the lil devils at feeding time. It's quite the savage experience!
Cascade brewery was My favourite one, as well as visiting the ruins of the convict site prison in Port Arthur.
Bruny island - go find an albino wallaby! They're so cute! Its not great for camping and very expensive, though.
Adelaide/South Australia
Pop to the Barossa Valley for you're wine fix.
Head on a long road trip to Coffin bay for oysters!
I went roadtripping to the sandunes and went 4w offroading. It was insane! I forgot My princess leia and jedi cosplay to shoot there and I still regret it :(
There's an insane lake you've got to witness with your own eyes. There's 2, with a road down the middle, and one side is aqua and the other, pink!
Perth/Western Australia
Go spot yourself a quokka! Found ONLY on Rottnest Island. They are chirpy, cute and love to take a selfie with you.
Exmouth, is around 9 hours north of Perth and that means alot of nature inbetween places! It’s a top fishing spot and insanely beautiful weather. This was where I tried my first line caught fresh fish and ‘fish wings’.
I spent my birthday snorkelling with manta rays. It was majestically wonderful. My crew were sure to jump in when they saw a tiger shark...I DON'T recommend. Sharks are incredible creatures but I've seen jaws. I'm good on the boat, thanks!
Northern territory
Source unknown
Uluru – the incredible indigenous history found at this amazing place is one I’m yet to experience. I’ve heard the energy is unexplainable and unlike anything people have experienced. I hope to capture some epic skies and stars in this spot sometime soon. Be sure to book in with as many aboriginal and indigenous workshops, tours and soak up everything about the true history of the land we now call Australia. Be sure to go during the cooler months.
Thanks for fast tracking around Australia with me! I had a blast ;)
