PLEASE HELP: TATTOO STUFF
I don't want to get yelled at in the tattoo community bc this might be a dumb question, but which set of advice do I follow?
Instructions from Tattoo site of where I'm getting it done:
Remove the bandage after 3-5 hours. Wash the tattoo with soap and warm water, and pat dry with a paper or clean cloth towel. Allow to air dry for 5-10 minutes. Apply a VERY thin layer of antibiotic ointment such as Neosporin, Bacitracin, or Triple Antibiotic ointment. If you know that you are allergic or sensitive to antibiotics, A&D ointment, or calendula ointment are good alternatives. Wash the tattoo and apply a THIN layer of ointment 3-4 times a day for seven to ten days. Around this time the tattoo will start to shed a thin flaky layer of skin. DO NOT scratch or pick at your tattoo. At this point you can switch to a moisturizer- don't let your tattoo get dried out for the first few weeks.
Something I had saved from a lj tattoo community:
Keep the dressing your artist applied over the piece for 24 hours. After the first night, run the water at your sink as hot as you can stand. Wash with soap and water. DON"T SCRATCH! Never use Neosporin or ointment! Use unscented, alcohol free lotion (Lubriderm) after 4 or 5 days. Don't submerge your tattoo in water. Wash your tattoo with hot or warm water with an anti-bacterial soap (Dial), pat dry, apply a small amount of fragrance free lotion.
Which do I follow?!
Help would be nice - thanks ♥

remove the bandage after 24 hours. after 24 take a shower and run cold cold water over your tattoo for 5 full minutes. during this time make sure you wash your tattoo very well with your hand and some dial antibacterial soap. make sure you get all the slime and body fluid that's on top of it off of there. what that stuff is is the stuff that makes your tattoo scab. the less of that stuff you leave on, the lighter and flakier the scab will be, and it will heal much quicker. apply a very small amount of unscented lotion (like lubriderm or something) no more than three times a day for two weeks ONLY WHEN IT ITCHES. no picking, no scratching, no tanning, no hottubbing, no baths for two weeks. make sure your showers are quick for the next two weeks. don't let it saturate in water, that makes for a soggy scab that can come off and leave holes in your color. soggy scabs are no good. and NO PICKING SCABS!
that's how i heal mine, and they've all turned out beautifully. definitely don't use neosporin or bactine or anything. thats wrong wrong wrong.
hope i helped!
&24 hours is best to leave it wrapped, but if 16 or 12 or even 8 hours is easier, my artist has told me thats fine, too.
but yeah, nooooo neosporin. i hate bad advice!
