For my Deviance and Social control class we read a really interesting article about the belief that deviance is a result of the extreme emphasis our society places on obtaining wealth. In order for people to reach this goal, they resort to taking part in illegal activities because obtaining money through legitimate means is often rare, and is extremely difficult. So basically deviance is a result of America's cultural emphasis on monetary accumulation as a measure of success.
How cool is that theory? (Btw, I know I'm a dork - leave me alone!)
Anywho, look at these really cool/really creepy works by Margot Quan Knight. Enjoy!
