"Don't Self Destruct"
Someone once told me that and I never really grasped the idea till years later. It means, to me at least, everytime you make a choice that choice is reflected in you life. Self-destructing is setting yourself up for failure. It's reconizing that your actions are going to potenially harm you in the future, but not taking any steps to correct those actions.
