Family can be pretty messed up sometimes. I haven't talked to my Dad in a while. We're playing a game of ignoring eachother due to positions we have both taken on others in the family. I am disappointed in him and he is in me I'm sure. We're doing a tit for tat it seems. How very grown up for both of us. We're both pretty stubborn so this could go on for a while. Ultimately I will give in though, because I am a little bit more emotionally aware and mature than he is, even though he's got way more life experience than I do, go figure. I can't say he was always there for me when I was growing up, he and my mom divorced when I was 10 or 11 and I only got to see him every other weekend and we never really developed a strong bond. He's been there for me in some important ways though. Anyway...
My brother came over last night. He just got back from visiting them down in pensacola. Apparently when hurricane dennis rolled through it fucked my dad's place up pretty badly. Real badly it looks from the pictures my brother had. I feel for them. They were just getting over some damage caused by hurricane Ivan last year. My Dad beat cancer a couple of years ago and it wiped out a lot of his savings that he had put away for retirement, and now he's having to work again. From what I understand from my brother he's doing work for others helping them fix their places (much to the consternation of my stepmom, who wants their place fixed). He always was a do it yourselfer, and always willing to help someone out. I hope he's getting paid for his help. I need to call him and see how he's doing. And since I'm moving to seattle sometime in the near future I need to go visit as well. I know he's pissed at me about some stuff, but I'm pissed at him about some stuff as well. Maybe we can put some of that to rest. We'll see.

Parents are far from perfect - fathers even more so sometimes - and he's only likely to get even more cantakerous as he gets older. No sense dwelling on that. Just try to appreciate him for the person he is.
