So usually when my son asks about his father it brings me down more than a little. I'm never sure what the right answer is to tell him. You don't tell a three year old he's not here cause he walked out on you.
But he asked his godfather the other day, and the explanation impressed me. Not the explanation his godfather gave him. That was a simple "if he wanted to be here he would" but my son's answer floored me.
"that's ok, i've got mommy and ka and tommy bear and unc dan..."
It was so simple. Yet at the same time seemed so profound to me that a three year old would really be able to grasp that even if his father's not around, it's ok because of how many people love him.
He's such a nifty little beastie.

I keep telling myself though that you are never given more then you can handle..
3 year olds amaze me my nephew just turned 3...and the things that come out of his mouth...just totally shock me sometimes. That is great that he knows how loved he is.
