I really hate my work situation sometimes.
I was supposed to work today at 6am. Yeah, 6am cleaning up other people's garbage from having fun on Canada Day because they didn't have to worry about working a 6am shift the next day. Anyway, my boss calls me yesterday around 5pm and says that if there is no fireworks then I won't need to come into work the following day (ie: today) and that one of my coworkers would call me to fill me in if something was changed. To some people this might not make sense, but you see fireworks draw people downtown to watch them, so if there are none then there are also significantly less people which means less shit to pick up the next day.
Anyway, the rain which would have stopped the fireworks ended sometime around 9pm so I figured for sure they were gonna be on, especially since I didn't receive a call from either of my coworkers. Around 9:55pm I start to hear some fireworks going off, not alot but fireworks nonetheless so I take a shower and go to bed in order to get up for my 6am shift which I assume is still on. WRONG!
I get in this morning at about a quarter-to-six eh-emm and nobody is there. I wait until 6:05 before I call my boss. Turns out he was out of town and doesn't know if there were fireworks or not. So I call one of my coworkers who says there were none, so what I heard must have been some asshole setting off his own. So I call my boss again and he says that I can go home if I want, and he will give me a half day off in return but I have to work at 6am TOMORROW! Why the fuck do I have to work that early tomorrow? Today isn't Canada Day, I don't think there will be any excessive partying/drinking on a Monday night, so what the fuck?
Needless to say I am not happy about this arrangement, but at least I got today off. I think I am gonna sit on my ass and watch High Fidelity...or maybe The Iron Giant. Whichever seems more appealing at the time I decide to hit the "open" button on my DVD player.
