I am currently embroiled in midterm week and doing my best to not study at all.
I watched Russian Ark last night (off of AnnaLee's recommendation), which ended up to be quite a good movie, although its definitely not for everyone.
Here's my two cents on Russian Ark:
How you can do an entire movie....with thousands of actors, three live orchestras and without messing up in one take is unbelievable and truely extraordinary.
I did like this film for several reasons, but the main one was the originality of the piece.
Its been quite a while since I've seen a film like this.
I must say, many on here might think its boring, in fact if you are thrown off by subtitles you'll probably not like it all together.
I do wish I could speak Russian, because I'm missing out on a lot of the random conversations not translated into English, for the simple reason that....at times there are so many different conversations one can not simply distinguish them.
At some points in the film, there is absolutely no conversation at all, sometimes upwards of 10 minutes.
If you enjoy foriegn film and history, this is worth a look.
Anyways,
I can't be bothered to write much now, I have to go study, and by study I mean procrastinate.
