Just got back from vacation in NYC. It's a great place to go hang out for a couple or so days, but there's no way in hell I could live there. This trip made me glad I live in Columbus, too. No shit! It's reasonably close by plane/car to a number of shit-cool places (NYC, Chicago, Toronto, Pittsburgh, etc). It's got everything you need, including world-class shopping and restaurants, if that's your thing, and you can actually afford to live and breathe here! Though as a counterpoint I must add that Cincy and C-Bus have slam-dunk, hands-down the worst drivers I've seen anywhere...
Anywho, I think part of the problem was our stay was a day or two too long for people who have already seen and done most things there. We did go to the Cloisters, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and International Center of Photography. The featured artist there was Larry Carter, the controversial filmmaker who did Kids. We also went to see Avenue Q on Broadway, which made me laugh till I cried. I've not laughed so hard since South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut, when "Uncle Fuckah" took me by complete surprise 15 minutes in. And of course we also hit up Central Park, Times Square, Union Sqare, the Village, etc. Hopefelly got some nice pictures which I can't wait to scrapbook!
Overall, we did have a pretty kick-ass time, but suffice it to say I've had my New York fix for a while...
