Well, fuck a duck!
I have to work thru the Thanksgiving holiday, because my department handles Canada, and we have to stay available for our customers during their hours of operation. Now half of my team still managed to get off the hook via vacation and personal time, but our customers aren't going to stop needing service because it's a holiday at the dispatch center in the US. Therefore, I am not anticipating a very pleasant next couple of days at the office.
My dad and stepmom went down to KY for the holiday, and their absence means I'll be Thanksgivingly homeless after work. I'm pretty bummed about not being able to join them, too. I haven't seen my Dad's relatives in a long time, and I really enjoy hanging out with them.
Now my Mom is coming up from KY for her family's get-together on Saturday. She wants me to stay with her in her hotel room. I love my Mom dearly, but we have a rocky history. Phil can't join me this weekend because he has to work, and that much one-on-one time with Mom, and no "buffer", is a little too close for comfort.
Wow, I'm actually looking forward to Monday for a change!
So I hope you all enjoy the Holidays, but if you don't, you're not alone. It only exists for the marketplaces' benefit, anyway. If the intent was to celebrate Jesus' birthday they got it all wrong, because historians and Bible scholars generally agree that Jesus was born sometime in the spring. In fact, the practice of celebrating Christmas on December 25 was "stolen" from the Roman Empire. They had a pagan holiday called Saturnalia that was characterised by gift-giving and gluttony, and observed on December 25! (So all you religious nutters out there, remember that next time you feel like bitching about Halloween!)
Thankyougoodnight,
