Alexis Kennedy was probably my favourite currently-working-in-the-industry game writer. I've gotten vast enjoyment out of his work in Cultist Simulator and Stellaris, and that prompted me to play Sunless Sea and I even started on Fallen London briefly while waiting eagerly for Book of Hours to get underway.
So when I saw the allegations against him (essentially, that he's made a habit of seducing women who work for him or whom he is otherwise in a position of power over, then treating them badly and intimidating them into staying silent about it), it made me sad. Then when I saw his response (essentially, that it's all lies and he's going to sue the accusers) which pretty much confirms the allegations are true (they were credible to begin with, and that response seems to be engaging in exactly the behaviour he's accused of), it made me both sad and angry.
It's not a unique or original situation, to admire art created by an artist who is an asshole in some way. But this particular case was not one I had expected, and I'm disappointed in the extreme.
My heart goes out to the people he has hurt.
