What use is this?

What good are the things that I do? The good works that I try to wring from nothingness? The help that I try to give? The advice that falls on deaf ears?

I am watching those that I love fall one at a time. Or in pairs. I try, but I cannot save them. They do not listen to me. There is nothing I can do but stand aside. Stand aside and let them make their choices. Watch as they turn their backs. On me. On each other. And all I can do is love them.

I cry out in the darkness, but my call is not heard.
