What a weekend.
Stats:
7 hours of sleep from Friday morning until Sunday night
24 beers from Friday at 4 PM til Sunday at 2 AM
7 punk and ska bands in 2 nights
75 mph was the top speed the cabbie achieved in 35 mph speed limit zone
6 Five hour energy from Friday morning to Sunday morning
2 brothers who went to the shows with me
1 friend from Des Moines
1 lesbian couple making out on the dance floor with me
2 hours hanging out with most of the band The Toasters before the first show
4 more hours hanging out with our friend Thad from the Toasters after the first show
15 miles the round trip distance to drop Thad off at his hotel at 6:00 AM so he did not miss the bus.
700 miles in a van round trip from Des Moines
As you can see from the stats it was a hell of a weekend. The first night we saw the Skapones, The Crombies, and The Toasters. The second night we saw Anti-Flag, Less Than Jake, Pennywise, and The Mighty Mighty Bostones. I met an bunch of cool people for the first time and met up with our old friend Thaddeus Merritt from Westbound Train and Void Union. He is sitting in at bass with the Toasters on this year's tour. There are more stories than can possibly tell in on sitting and most of them are definitely PG or better.
A big thank you to the bartenders at the Subterranean, who kept us in beer and water all night. These guys were awesome and it is a great place.
A big thank you to the cute bartender at Goose Island by Wrigley Field, who told us about the Hop Leaf. If you ever are in Chicago you have to go there, it is a great place. And if you like hoppy beer like I do, ask them for a Daisy Cutter, you will not regret it.
And finally, to my two brothers, Aaron and Ivan, and my friend, Chris, who went along with me a big thanks for coming to the shows with me it was a lot of fun. And you are all a really sorry bunch for not being able to out last an old guy like me in the pits.
Sorry, melaniek, I forgot my camera both nights so I did not get any pictures. But I talked to the photographer for the festival who took several shots of me skanking on the first night. He said to keep my eye on the site, because they will be posting them soon. That and I am pretty sure my camera would have been turned into little bitty pieces and parts after 5 minutes in the Pennywise pit.
