Okay, I just wrote something but it was just a run down of what Ive been up to recently and really, its not all that interesting. Instead Im going to share an idea Ive been knocking around for a story/novel/book/something I feel I need to write. Ive had this idea of trying to write something for years but Ive never really found anything that I knew enough about or care enough about to get into it. I think I now have the idea.
Okay, the basic gist of it is what would happen if you were a video game character? Not controlling one but the one who is being controlled yet didnt know this. It stemmed from my thinking of all the gaming clichs there are (100 rings/coins/butt monkeys = a new life etc.) and I was thinking of writing a parody of this but then got thinking on a deeper level.
Its kinda hard to explain because I havent got all the stuff sorted out myself yet but I think the basic idea that I want to do is examine society through using a computer game as a metaphor for the world we live in.
I havent got much in the way of plot yet but I do have a fair chunk of the basic ideas for how the world the story is set in will work, the laws and principles and this is the part that I find really exciting, creating a whole world in my head and then trying to get it out on paper. Its getting the characters to seem plausible and shit that I find daunting.
I hope Ive got the time and energy to see this through to the end because Ive started stuff before and then become disillusioned with the idea but this time I think its something that has really grabbed my interest.
Anyway, Im off to pretend to work and go live in this imaginary world a little longer. My god, I feel around seven years old again, creating imaginary friends and the like. Imaginations rule

sounds cool. i think having a general statement will help you focus what you want and dont want to write about. then you can hone each moment to be part of that push. im reading american psycho right now and it does just that, as to prety much all great books, as i see it.
