The long national nightmare is over. 2 weeks ago, I bid a job to paint the interior of my friend's mother's rental apartment. I figured it would take about 4 eight-hour work days. This has taught me why I should never consider being a contractor. It took me working alone about 84 hours spread out over 2 weeks to finish, so I came out as a loser in just about every way. Not only was I underpaid and worked way harder than I estimated, the owner was pissed because I took longer than I said I would. That's what she gets for hiring amateurs.
She actually fired me after one week, then re-hired me the next day. I wondered why the sudden change of heart. The dumb broad decided she could do the job herself with CANS OF SPRAY PAINT!!! There was overspray everywhere, just wretched. I can't wait till my bud sees that
Anyway, it's all over thank god. I hate painting but it's the only handy trade I know how to do reasonably well.
I rented this GREAT drama series from the library called Reilly: Ace of Spies. It's sooooooo good. It's based on the true story of a British secret agent, Sidney Reilly, who worked from 1900 until the 1920's. Reilly (played by Sam Neill) worms and weasels around the interests of the Great Powers, taking whichever side will benefit him the most, usually concerning naval contracts, oil deals, etc. He even attempted to subvert the Russian Revolution in 1917 to place himself in control of the Russian government. A really extraordinary man, never heard of him till I saw the tape case in the library. Best part is that there are 3 other volumes

Anyway, I just popped in to mention the fact that I just finished watching City Of God on DVD. It's an awesome film and your synopsis was spot on, thanks for the recommendation.
