Rented a pretty interesting movie tonight, The Shape of Things. Interesting in that it talks about what art is, which is kind of a strange thing to marry to a movie about relationships and about whether you can change someone.....or whether you should even try.
It's about a frumpy geeky undergrad who's never been successful with women who picks up a MFA grad student who is about to vandalize a renaissance statue, They hit it off and her influence gradually begins to change his appearance for the better. His changes and his girlfriend's conceptual take on art and interpretations of what define art cause friction between him and his old friends, who are preppy upper class types and who had neatly pigeonholed him. His changes affect their friendship negatively.
It all leads to a climax which is pret-ty fucking brutal.
Pretty harsh, but nowhere near as painful to watch as a Todd Soldnoz [sic] flick.
