Things I have seen on my bus this week:
I have a little boy, a third grader that I really like. He is hilarious, but man is he a behavior problem. Usually though it is just fun and games, nothing serious. Until Tuesday of this week. He unloaded on a sixth grader for no reason, starting punching him in the back of the head, then he took off the other kid's glasses and tried to break them. It was in a bad spot for me because I couldnt pull over, it didnt last long, but still...
The very next day an older kid bumped into him and he starting punching. The older kid just grabbed his fists and kept him from hitting, which kept things better until I could pull over, but then a middle school girl stepped in to help out, and the third grader just turned and started swinging, hitting her in the face a few times. By then I was pulled over and I pulled him off.
Yesterday I met with his principal, he completely denied everything, and was totally calm about it. I guess his mom lets him get by with anything and everything and he treats her like shit...
I have this wonderful middle school girl on my bus (the same one that tried to break up the fight), but she is so troubled. Always in trouble with someone, I think she is even on probation and she is like 14. Yesterday she got into a fight at school, pretty much choking another girl out. She is now suspended for 8.5 days. This isnt the first time for her, early in the year, a girl that was sick of her shit suckered her into a fight and ended up having a bunch of friends jump her and royally beat the shit out of her. This girl is bright, funny, she has a lot going for her, but I am not sure if she will change
Then, I have another girl on my bus, loud, funny and only 10 or so. Same age as my daughter Zoe. Zoe dreams of being an artist, or scientist or both. She wants to drag race my GTO, learn photography and design clothes. This girl on my bus was bragging to me that she has 1 D, and 4 Fs, but that was ok because she was going to drop out of school and work where her mom works to make a lot of money. Her mom works at a potato warehouse. I think I am sad because at this age she should be full of hopes and dreams and the future should seem a long ways away for her and the sky is the limit. But she is determined to do bad in school, drop out, go to work in the potato warehouses. She will do that before she is in highschool I bet...
