I just found out today that we have a student that is so poor he family lives in a shack with no wood or propane heat. This is in Colorado at 7500ft in an area that sees -20F temps in the winter.

They have electricity but no hot water. The boy cooks Raman noodle using the hot water from a coffee maker. He has to...

I have always hated that Genndy Tartakovsky stopped making new Samurai Jack. I love that series and have been catching it on Boomerang lately. It's probably my favorite thing on TV ever... Well, maybe tied with Big Cat Diary that the Animal Planet did.

I love how Facebook lately gives me friend suggestions that are completely random: no common friends, school, city... Who knows.

I...

I've wondered the same thing about shaving pubes! Don't get me wrong, I sometimes think it really suits a girl &it does often look nice, but I much prefer having pubes these days. I only shave for my sets anymore, haha. It just FEELS nicer with them there!

Windy season. Ugh. Non-stop wind for days and days and days.

I start some writing workshops at the local Hospice next month. It is part of a field study for Antioch University. Me and two other writers are doing these workshops with the theme of "home". and we are teaching writing as therapy. My friend Michelle is working this in a homeless shelter/halfway house, and...

I am sitting in the ONLY coffee shop that is in my town (I cant wait to live in Seattle).

The town in which i teach is cursed. Alred Packer (look him up) was in the town jail, a woman's remains were found burning in a barrel a couple of years ago, the body of an unknown black man were found in the hills nearby....

i gave a student that i am trying intervene with my copy of Sherman Alexie's "The Lone Ranger, Tonto Fist Fight in Heaven".

he is this sophomore, stoner, intelligent, politically minded student with a heavy Indian background.

he took the book, started reading it that day. right before lunch, he stopped in my room and was telling me about it, he was so excited and...

i have this student that has just taken off with everything i have thrown at him in terms of literature. he is a sophomore, and is so conscious of social justice, and is always quick to defend the down trodden in school and the community.

i have shown him Alexie, Blake, Hikmet and a few others. students like him make teaching worth if for sure....

Brief update:

Met a woman in CA when I was at school. I love her. She lives in Seattle, been a wild and great long distance relationship, and I will be there soon.

Teaching has been good, interesting, but good. The kids I teach are so sheltered, and there are only 31 in the whole high school.

Writing has been okay, the damned alternative teaching...
