Today's Topic: Crushes
There are many forms of crushes, it seems. The differences seem to be tied to your age when you have them. When in grade school, one might have a crush on a teacher. It's hardly a romantic feeling, and sure as hell shouldn't be sexual.
Then in your teens, a crush is more about your hormones and funny feelings and wanting to put something into something else. In college it gets refined more, because there's actually some brain work going on. She's funny, and smart, and likes some of the same things you do and...oh yeah, she has a sweet ass.
But now, in my 30's, after having been in long-term relationships a crush might seem a bit immature. Let me tell you, it rocks! I know all about the serious side of love, i know that hearts are broken (and usually get better). Because i know this it makes a crush that more intense because i know it's worth more.
And boy oh boy, do i have a crush. I think about her all the time. I have grown closer to her very slowly. I know there really is no chance that anything will come of it ('i have a boyfriend, and he's the one'. Uummm...no he isn't. She'll figure that out, likely after i'm gone). But she is so beautiful, and cute, and strong, and graceful, and her smile, her eyes, and...
And when she asks me to wait a moment so she can give me a hug... she feels soooo good. I don't want to let go, but it's only a crush. Just a crush.
I am crushed.

To be crushed as you currently are is a beautiful thing. Better that than hate someone and get eaten up inside. You're right about the age thing: In our 30s we know more about love and people. The storm of adolescence subsides and we begin to see more clearly what intimacy is. Stay close to this one. Chances are she may soon discover he isn't the one and she'll need a good friend to turn to....

i'm glad to know that i'm not the only guy in his 30's who still gets crushes. my latest crush is only 21 and i thought age was an issue. of course, the guy she just hooked up is 41 and has the same first name as me. that sucks doesn't it?
