Some pictures from our rt. 66 odyssey:
the beginning: we chipped some ice from Lake Michigan with the Chicago skyline in the backround
Missouri: John's Modern Cabins, ruined 1930's tourist lodgings, bypassed first by the interstate, now isolated even more by the very recent re-alignment of that same interstate - the huge, interstate-sized and shaped now-grass strip in front of it is really odd and out of place.
An old abandoned alignment of rt. 66 with the original pavement - we drove about two miles of this
Arizona:This was marked as 'rough road'. 'No road' was more like it: 8 miles+ of washboard dirt with a one-lane 1930's bridge in the middle. We found the ride smoothed out a bit over 50-60 mph in the dirt...
